To bed they creep,
By whistling winds soon lullʼd asleep.

The Folklore Society, based in London, is a vast resource that contains a wealth of information that could inspire a thousand different musical works. Amidst the societyʼs seemingly infinite resources, Elms, having been brought up in a village on the outskirts of Hull, was drawn to one particular volume amongst the societyʼs collection: Examples of Printed Folk-Lore Concerning the East Riding of Yorkshire, collected and edited by one Mrs Gutch for the Folklore Society in 1912. Elmsʼ reading of this volume prompted his research into the heritage of Britain and its rich history of music and lore. By Whistling Winds Soon Lullʼd Asleep marks the first work in a series of musical works written for the concert guitar.
